There are two springboards: a 1-meter and a 3-meter.There are five types of dives on a springboard plus one more on a platform. They are:
Within each direction of dive, there are four positions that can be used:StraightYour body long, with little or no arch, as you spinPikeYour body is bent in half so your arms are behind your legs and your face is by your kneesTuckYour knees are brought up to your chest so your head is almost between themFreeThis is only for twist dives. Your body may change positions though the dive, though it's mostly straightEach dive has a number that identifies it. It has either three or four digits. For either front, back, reverse, or inward there are three digits. The first number indicates the direction of the dive. 1 = Front 2 = Back 3 = Reverse 4 = InwardIn these four categories the middle digit is always 0. The third digit indicates the number of half somersaults. All odd numbers are going into the water head first, even number dives are feet first. 1 = Dive 2 = One somersault 3 = One somersault plus a half 4 = Two somersaults 5 = Two somersaults plus a half Etc.To indicate what position each dive will be in there is a letter at the end of the digits. A = Straight B = Pike C = Tuck D = FreeFor the twist dives and the armstand dives, there are four numbers. The first indicates which one it is. 5 = Twisting dive 6 = Armstand diveThe second one is the direction (same as above). The third number is the number of half somersaults (same as above) and the fourth number is the number of half twists. 1 = One half twist 2 = One full twist 3 = One and a half twists 4 = Two full twists Etc.So now you know how to tell which dive it is by the number. 103B = Front one and a half, pike 5122D = Front one somersault with one full twist, free 401C = Inward dive, tuck 302B = Reverse somersault, pike 202A = Back somersault, straight 6231D = Back armstand one and a half somersaults with a half twist, free |
